Darryl Ursin

Attended the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, graduating in 2019 and now works at UAP – Old Mutual as an Actuarial Analyst in Nairobi. Darryl, from Kenya, was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2016, and was a Beacon Scholar at university for 3 years.

Darryl graduated with BSc in Actuarial Science at LSE, achieving First Class Honours. During his second-year summer break, he interned with UAP – Old Mutual in Nairobi.

While at LSE he volunteered with the Thomas Pocklington Trust, helping visually impaired people participate in activities, especially swimming. He also volunteered every year of his studies at the East London Day Centre for Crisis at Christmas, latterly in a leadership role as a Sports Activity Leader. He led the Speculative Fiction & Tabletop Games Society, was an academic mentor to three fellow Statistics students, and his 3-man team came second in the LSE Practitioners Challenge, a two-month project modelling real-life scenarios using market data.

Darryl was voted the Future Leader of Insurance in 2020 by the Association of Kenya Insurers for his innovative solutions to prevailing industry problems. Darryl is continuing to progress in becoming a credentialed actuary and is very pleased to have an opportunity to work on inclusive insurance solutions in the region.
