A world where collaboration, empathy, and justice are the cornerstones of policy-making
Our mission is to develop the long-term leadership potential of gifted and talented young black Africans from under-served backgrounds, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge to become ethical changemakers for Africa.
Our Partners
The Beacon has developed partnerships with world-class schools and universities to promote access for financially disadvantaged students who show leadership potential, but do not have sufficient means to pay full fees.
Alongside mentoring and leadership development, educational fee support is provided as follows:
- For the Beacon School Scholarship 2/3 of a Beacon Scholar’s annual tuition (and boarding) fees, with families needing to fund the remaining 1/3.
- For the Beacon University Scholarship full tuition fees for Beacon Scholars, with families needing to fund living costs and all extras.
Our Scholars
To become a Beacon Scholar, candidates must present evidence of:
- Exceptional academic ability; and
- Excellence in sport, music or drama; and
- Outstanding interpersonal skills; and
- Role-model citizenship
Changemakers
Additionally, new and continuing Beacon Scholars must in their behaviour and outlook:
- Demonstrate natural leadership skills and that they are ‘taking people with them’; and
- Show how they are making a difference now, not just hoping to do so in the future.
All current and past Beacon Scholars are high achievers sharing these two changemaker attributes.
