Jason Kahugu
14 years old, attending Peponi School, Nairobi, Kenya. Jason was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2024.
Jason is a capable student demonstrating particular strengths in Information Technology, Spanish, and Religious Studies. His involvement in the Gauss International Mathematics Contest reflects his engagement in activities that develop analytical and critical-thinking skills.
A talented sportsman, Jason is a member of the school A teams for football, basketball, and rugby, where he has been top scorer in several matches. He has also led team training sessions and captained the rugby team during a recent tournament. Jason plays the saxophone and is currently preparing for his ABRSM Grade 4 exams.
Jason volunteers to read sermons and prayers in chapel and regularly helps at school sporting events on weekends. During a recent President’s Award expedition, he supported his peers in outdoor group and team activities, showing a natural ability to motivate others.
Jason enjoys service in his community, in particular volunteering his time at football training sessions with children at Ligi Ndogo, a local community football club. He also contributes to school-led community work by helping collect book and toy donations for a children’s home, and visits to help run activities with the children.

In Workshops, Jason has shown excellent commitment, referencing course content during breakout room activities and giving valuable contributions when prompted.
Beacon Summer Citizenship Projects
Jason’s Summer Citizenship Project was titled ‘Empowering Umoja Youth Through Cricket: Volunteer Support for East Africa Character Development Trust‘ in Nairobi, and involved giving disadvantaged children the opportunity to play cricket with full kits and training.
