Malcom Kazimil

22 years old, attending the University of Bristol, UK. Malcom was awarded a Beacon Scholarship for University in May 2023, and a Beacon Scholarship for Schools in 2019.

Malcom is studying towards a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.  He is a dedicated and talented student, working diligently on both coursework and revision throughout the year and attaining the highest possible grades. He has secured a placement at Bentley Cars in Crewe for his year in industry.

Malcom enjoys all that university life in Bristol has to offer. He has run a half marathon, cycled from Bristol to Bath and he attends the gym regularly. Other activities include learning Turkish, studying Project Management, pottery making and padel, and even becoming a model for university advertising.

Malcom continues to use his voice for good.  As President of the Robogals Society, he has connected with and inspired over 250 school students in STEM. He is Sponsorship Officer for BEEEs, and Treasurer and Secretary for Black in STEM. His efforts are recognised through awards such as the Black Heritage Undergraduate of the Year Top 40 and Bristol SU’s 50 Most Influential Students – this one for a second consecutive year. His influence was also harnessed in an interview for a UCAS podcast offering support and advice for studying in the UK.

Malcom’s Golden Summer service organisation continues to grow in Tanzania, supporting schools there with libraries and health workshops. He also supports Cancer Research and acts as a food volunteer at Olio. His service focus also extends to promoting cultural awareness and inclusion with a Swahili culture day.

At Beacon Workshops, Malcom is known for his knack for bringing out the best in other team members; his presence always adds dynamism to a group.

Beacon Summer Citizenship Project

Malcom’s Summer Citizenship Project was called ‘Golden Summer: Build Her Future, Help Empower Girls Through Books & STEM’ and focused on empowering Tanzanian secondary school girls through literacy, life skills, and STEM workshops in Dar es Salaam.
