Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Teambuilding Leadership Workshop for Schools Scholars was delivered electronically. The theme was ‘Building a Team’.
Unfortunately, the usual Sagana Teambuilding Workshop had to be cancelled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. To ensure the Beacon Programme continued uninterrupted and that key learnings could be delivered to Beacon Scholars, the Beacon commissioned a customised e-Learning Module on ‘Building a Team’.
This module was successfully delivered to Continuing and New Schools Scholars in three video calls with associated ‘Homework’ in between each call. The Workshop curriculum included learning about team roles and concluded with a Dragon’s Den exercise where Scholars were divided into groups and had to come up with a social action project, service or product idea with project timelines, financials, and ideas for marketing. Each group created a video and accompanying business plan which was then reviewed and the groups were interrogated live by three ‘Dragons’.
The videos are below, and are very impressive:
Key learning outcomes in this workshop included:
- Understanding team roles and dynamics;
- Recognising strengths and weaknesses in self and others;
- Collaborating and problem-solving;
- Building self-confidence;
- Delegation and communication;
- Creativity and enterprise.
Following the success of this e-Workshop, and in light of continued COVID-19 restrictions, Beacon is planning to pilot other e-Workshops and virtual events in 2020/21.
