Shawn Mwenje
Attended Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge until June 2024, having held a Beacon Scholarship for 3 years.
Shawn studied towards a BArch in Architecture and spent many hours both in the studio and on his portfolio. He is also a talented artist and photographer who uses his skills to enrich the education of children in his home country of Kenya.
Shawn enjoys fitness activities, going to the gym and boxing regularly and has recently competed in his debut boxing match.
Shawn maintains a good personal profile, having acted as a Student Ambassador and UniBuddy at Cambridge, as well as being VP of the Hip Hop Society.
Shawn uses his love of art to support his citizenship activities: he raised funds for his Citizenship Project by sales of his art and then ran a series of art workshops for children in a community centre, opening their eyes to what art can do to boost their self-esteem. He was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed teaching. He is also a passionate supporter of Prostate Cancer research.
Beacon Workshop Participation
Shawn’s 2022 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was about organising painting workshops at the Mituini Hope Centre, giving the children there a creative outlet and a sense of educational achievement.
