Serenae Nyaboke Angima
15 years old, attending International School of Kenya, Nairobi.
15 years old, attending International School of Kenya, Nairobi. Serenae was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.
Serenae is a dedicated and proactive Scholar who has shown excellent achievement in Physics, English and PE, leading to her inclusion on the school Honors Roll. She has implemented consistent study techniques, and makes regular revision a priority. Serenae is exceeding in CASL, showcasing her communication, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Serenae is involved with many co-curricular activities. She took part in an ISSEA Arts and Drama Festival in Zimbabwe where she received the ‘Most Valuable’ award, and also plays tennis, representing her school in the U16 category in national tournaments for tennis. In addition to being a member of the school concert band, taking part in school recitals, Serenae is preparing to take Grade 5 in violin and audition for the Kenya Youth Orchestra.
Serenae leads with empathy and purpose, ensuing that voices are heard and valued. As a Pillar Leader in the Round Square Club, Serenae has participated in a Postcard Exchange and international online seminars discussing global themes. Exploring joint ventures, she has helped to collaborate with Starehe Boys to organise a charity run and is developing her leadership style.
Serenae is an engaged citizen. She has led and participated in Kangami children’s home visits, written articles for website Mwangaza Stories, and collaborates on a field project promoting the FlipFlopi recycling initiative, raising awareness of the impact of plastic waste on coastal communities. Serenae is now working on developing a student-led partnership with FlipFlopi advocating environmental responsibility.
Beacon Workshop Participation
In Workshops, Serenae has grown in confidence and has developed leaderships skills such as creativity, active listening and giving and receiving feedback.
Beacon Summer Citizenship Project
Serenae’s Summer Citizenship Project was called ‘Flipping the Script on Plastic‘ and focused on spreading awareness about plastic pollution and sustainability (especially among youth) through social media campaigns and creative content.
