Citizenship Projects e-Reviews – August/September 2024

Citizenship Projects e-Reviews – August/September 2024

In August and September, we ran our annual e-reviews sharing and celebrating the experiential Citizenship Projects all scholars carry out each summer.

Beacon Schools and University Scholars enjoyed Zoom gatherings where they shared and celebrated the results of their Beacon Summer Citizenship Projects for 2024. Projects encompass fields such as education, health and the environment, and are a key part of the Beacon Leadership Curriculum.

Prior to the e-Review, all scholars produce and share a video presentation showcasing their individual projects. At the session, scholars quizzed each other on their different projects. They then had the opportunity to discuss and evaluate the projects, learning from each other and gathering ideas for future projects. A key area discussed in all projects is sustainability, and how projects might continue to be impactful when scholars are back at school or university.

Projects this year included:

  •  A two-week course for students focusing on SDGs, sustainability and how to encourage positive change within the environment, as well as debate practice through MUN to reinforce topics and provide practical experience
  • The transformative power of music in informal settlements
  • Raising awareness of gender-based violence
  • Democratising and spreading the use of technology in Kenyan schools

Scholars’ video presentations can be viewed on each scholar’s web profile.
