Leadership Development Module: M14 Making Decisions – February 2026

Module 14 of our Leadership Development Programme explored Making Decisions and the strategies we can use to confidently reach clear and effective decisions.

Every day, we make countless decisions, from small and routine choices to major, life-changing ones, each shaping who we are and the paths we take. Learning to make good decisions helps us think clearly, weigh up our options, and act with confidence.

During the M14 workshops, scholars explored a range of complex decision-making scenarios. They then presented their reasoning and outlined the steps they took to reach their decisions, utilising the strategies learned from the ARLLS leadership curriculum Moodle course.

As a new feature, several scholars volunteered to put their mentoring skills into practice by taking on the role of Breakout Group Mentor within their groups. They shared their observations in plenary, using key prompts to support and structure their reflections.

Participants shared their key takeaways from the course and workshop:

  • I realised just how much I used the ‘Six Hat’ method in my everyday decisions. Now I know that I use it, I’ve realised how much it helps me.
  • As a leader…You have to be willing to not get every decision 100% right.
  • My group mates slowed down the pace and thought things through, allowing me to see the situation in a way that I hadn’t before.
  • Being a Breakout Group Mentor has really helped in my reflection… It was truly an eye-opener, and I hope to take these lessons forward.
