In January, we delivered workshops focusing on the attributes of effective leadership.
Module 8 of the ARLLS Leadership Development programme is ‘Leading Effectively.’ A deep dive into what makes a great leader, school and university scholars completed the online course on Moodle and then participated in a workshop via Zoom. The online course consisted of lessons on:
- What is an Effective Leader?
- Leading with Emotion
- How to create a Powerful Impression
Keen to share their expectations at the start of the workshop, Scholars’ outlined individual goals such as; ‘To be able to contribute to what we believe is a model leader,’ ‘to see in action how self awareness can contribute to becoming an effective leader’ and ‘to combine the leadership types learned from the course in the workshop activity.’
Using key ideas from the Moodle course, Fantasy Leaders League asked participants to create an avatar with ideal leadership qualities. Scholars took inspiration from fictional leaders in the world of film and also from inspirational real-life leaders in sports and politics to put their new ‘fantasy leader’ into context. Top of the Scholars wish list was an individual with high EQ, charisma, empathy and authenticity along with great drive and vision.
Course and workshop feedback was extremely positive:
- ‘I enjoyed the workshop breakout, and being able to collaborate with my peers. I also enjoyed learning about other great world leaders, and how they represented their traits.‘
- ‘I think becoming more self aware as a leader and as a person is definitely something I’m going to work on.’
