BET Trustees are very pleased to announce that four world class secondary schools in Tanzania have joined the Beacon Programme as it expands beyond Kenya.
International School of Tanganyika
St Constantine’s International School
They join 8 Beacon Schools in the region all of whom are committed to developing ‘Change-makers’ as part of The Beacon Scholarship for Schools.
BET Trustees are also pleased to announce that as a result of this expansion up to 5 new Beacon Scholarships for Schools will be awarded each year in the region.
The intention of The Beacon Scholarship is to enable especially gifted children to obtain a high quality education at a Beacon School which their parents would otherwise be unable to afford, and which will eventually enable them to attain leadership positions in their home country.
Beacon Schools are equal stakeholders alongside BET and Beacon Scholar parents/guardians; each party funds 1/3 of termly tuition fees. The schools are also committed to building the leadership skills of Beacon Scholars, and to mentoring them to help them realise their potential. BET itself independently provides training and mentoring through the development of personal leadership and teambuilding skills. Beacon Scholars are also required to undertake a Citizenship Project every summer and present it to the Beacon Community.
The addition of four top schools at secondary level in Tanzania continues BET’s strategy of building and broadening a vertical platform for developing future leaders. In addition to primary and secondary schools, BET has partnerships to enable entry into two leading international universities – University of Cambridge and The London School of Economics – via The Beacon Scholarship for University. BET is actively looking to partner with additional world class international universities.
