Ammar Janmohamed

19 years old, attending Cardiff University, UK. Ammar was awarded a Beacon Changemakers University Scholarship in May 2025.
Ammar is studying towards a BEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Prior to that, he attended Al-Muntazir Islamic School, Tanzania, where he completed A-levels in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. He is a resilient, focused and proactive student. He was proud to achieve a full scholarship to attend the ‘London International Youth Science Forum’ hosted at Imperial College London in the summer of 2024.
Ammar is highly engaged in co-curricular activities, demonstrating leadership and commitment. He founded the school Robotics Club and was selected for the Young Scientists for Africa awards (YoSA). At school he was a member of the Senior Football and Table Tennis teams.
Ammar has strong social influence and communication skills. He has held leadership positions including School Prefect, House Captain and Head of co-curricular activities. He was project manager of the NASA Space Apps competition and won first place with his team. He has organised and hosted conferences on university and career advice supporting students to make informed decisions.
Ammar is engaged in a range of citizenship activities. As a member of the Legions Club, Ammar has taken part in tree planting, beach cleanups, school renovation projects, and supported a children’s cancer ward. He earned a ‘Champion of the Community’ recognition award in 2023.
