Arthur Ddamulira
Attended Cardiff University and graduated in 2023, having held a Beacon Scholarship for 3 years. Currently working in the disputes practice at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Dubai, Arthur, from Uganda, will commence his SQE in March 2024, and start his legal career at Freshfields London office as a trainee associate.
Arthur graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Law, ranking 4th in his cohort and first for public international law. During his time at Cardiff, he founded and ran the Commercial Awareness Society, creating their website and writing academic articles. As Editor in Chief of the Law Review, he led the publication of the first volume for over 8 years. He also carried out research and wrote articles for London Politica and the Radius. At London Politica, he helped found and lead Africa Watch.
Outside academics, Arthur enjoys boxing and trains regularly, and has been brushing up his conversational Swahili. Always active in the University moot scene, he led Cardiff to its first national final in the OUP moot and recently moved to coaching and judging the university teams, rather than participating himself. These teams entered various competitions, some of which raised money for charity.
Arthur is already making a difference in people’s lives, leading by example and mentoring others. He sits on various panels, passing on his experience to others; these include discussions on career paths, leadership and his own journey into law. At Cardiff, he organised socials to help first years to settle into halls, and as Corporate Relations Officer for the 93% club, he hosted panels and helped raise money by securing long-term partners for the cause.
Arthur represented clients with Support Through Court and continues this work as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. His work with students from the Sutton Trust has encouraged more than 30 students this year to apply for university places, and his contact with Pro Bono Uganda has led to facilitating book clubs remotely and encouraging partnership with Aga Khan schools. He is already an active member of the Beacon Alumni group.
