Chelsea Mbajo
17 years old, attending Haven of Peace Academy, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Chelsea was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2024.
In her first year as a Beacon Scholar, Chelsea has made an impressive start to her A-level studies, achieving highly in her AS subjects across the year and showing outstanding effort. In recognition, she has been awarded two Principal’s Honour Roll Certificates for achieving academic excellence and a Certificate of Excellence for being the best student in AS English Literature.
A talented vocalist, Chelsea was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of her contribution to music performance. She enjoys singing, and performs in school talent shows, in assemblies with the worship team and leads a senior school music club. She is involved with drama and played significant roles in two school productions. She is a keen sportswoman and an active member of the U18 football and volleyball teams, winning a football tournament at the Moshi Sports Weekend.
Chelsea connects well with her peers; she trained for and is now a leader in the Wyldlife club where she builds relationships with middle school students and plans activities. She is also part of the Campaigners group which mentors middle school girls weekly. She has grown in self-confidence, allowing her to take on new leadership opportunities, and was successfully elected as Student Council Vice-President.
Chelsea contributes to her community through various fundraisers such as Tumaini La Maisha, raising a significant amount of money. She is also a regular visitor to the children there, and with her Service-Learning Team teaches and plays with them. She has recently joined Literacy for Tanzania and is now planning for upcoming events.

At Workshops, Chelsea is confident, showing good attention to detail, contributing meaningfully and offering constructive feedback to her peers.
Beacon Summer Citizenship Project
Chelsea’s Summer Citizenship Project was ‘Beyond Academics: Empowering Students Through the Arts’ and was carried out at Prestige School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
