Daisy Katongo
18 years old, attending Baobab College, Lusaka, Zambia. Daisy was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2024.
Daisy has made an outstanding start to her Beacon journey demonstrating strong commitment and focus to her academic studies. She excels in Mathematics and ICT, and was recently recognised at the Zambian National STEM Fair for presenting a prototype design aimed at addressing the effects of sea pollution.
Daisy is a keen sprinter and a member of the U19 girls’ volleyball and basketball teams, earning a bronze medal at the IZAZ National Competition for basketball. She is learning the guitar and sings as a Key Alto in the school choir. Daisy takes part in the school Coding Club and is developing her own website using JavaScript and advanced coding techniques.
Daisy is a Wellbeing Prefect and has been recognised with an award for leading impactful anti-bullying sessions. She has promoted inclusion in STEM by delivering presentations encouraging girls to pursue science subjects. Daisy recently delivered a TED Talk on STEM education at TEDx Lusaka and she also contributes as a member of the TechGirls Alumnae Advisory Council, showcasing her Changemaker qualities.
As Vice President of the Interact Club Daisy supports fundraising events for the Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation and The Young Women’s Christian Association. She co-ordinates donations for a local school, helping deliver clothing, shoes and books.

Daisy is a capable presence at Workshops, showing confidence in her leadership and consideration for others.

Daisy’s Summer Citizenship Project was ‘Bridging the STEM Divide: Katwish Launch‘ – the creation and launch of her website providing STEM resources for schools.
