Ella Obonyo
Attended Imperial College London and graduated in 2024, Ella, from Kenya, held a Beacon Scholarship for three years.
Ella graduated with an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in Medical Biosciences. During her final year, Ella enjoyed networking in her field, attending conferences such as MedTech and Femtech, and the London Biotechnology show. She supplemented her studies by attending training sessions on python and coding.
Ella enjoys a range of co-curricular activities including inline and roller skating, football and regular gym use to build and maintain fitness.
Ella enjoys being active and making a difference, demonstrated by roles such as Wellbeing Officer for her year group and Secretary for the East Africa Society. She is a skilled networker, participating in events such as a Women’s Day dinner, the Barts Life Science Tech launch, the Black Graduate Careers Conference and the Consulting Society’s networking events.
An engaged citizen, Ella has been involved with the British Red Cross, volunteer tutoring for ‘Tutor the Nation’, and she was a Recruitment and Outreach Ambassador for Imperial College. She has also been involved with the Students for Global Health Society, learning about ways to increase impact and contribute to the global health sector.
Beacon Workshop Participation
Ella’s 2023 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was about enhancing the learning experience of children at Young Life Africa Children’s Home by supporting the IT component of their ‘Enhancement Programme’.
