Kreeshi Shavdia

20 years old, attending the University of Bristol, UK. Kreeshi was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.

Kreeshi is studying towards a BSc in Mathematics and Physics. She is a committed student and maintains excellent scores in all her coursework. She attends weekly peer-assisted study sessions and practises past papers.  Keen to increase her commercial awareness, she attends talks by organisations such as JEPA and Beacon.

Kreeshi enjoys a wide range of activities to enhance her studies. She is involved with drama productions, variously helping with scriptwriting, auditions and props. She enjoys regular exercise with the gym, classes, swimming and yoga featuring on her list. She is part of the Multifaith Chaplaincy and a member of the East African Society – helping to plan a ‘Kenya Day’.

Kreeshi is an active member of university life. She is Vice-President of Robogals, and President of the Earth Justice Society; she has acted as a Student Trustee and Co-Chair of the Finance, Audit Risk and Governance Committee, planning strategy, interviewing and talking to student groups. At the Careers Service, she answers questions, signposts and helps at events. She is an analyst for JEPA Africa Research Services, and writes in-depth articles supporting East Africa’s continued development.

For her Citizenship, Kreeshi is part of the Hungry Caterpillar initiative, selling food essentials at wholesale prices to students. As VP of Robogals, she increased participation of girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in STEM and launched a tutoring programme. As President of Earth Justice Society, she organised a training session on ocean protection, empowering others to get involved.

Beacon Workshop Participation

At Beacon Workshops, Kreeshi is a mature and responsible Scholar who guides her teams effectively.  She is highly articulate, contributing ideas and solutions, and challenging her fellow Scholars to reach productive outcomes.

Beacon Summer Citizenship Project

Kreeshi’s Summer Citizenship Project was called ‘Equations and Explosions’ and was a Maths and Physics outreach programme carried out in partnership with the University of Bristol designed to spark curiosity and confidence in STEM subjects.
