Kushaan Raja
17 years old, attending St Constantine’s International School, Arusha, Tanzania. Kushaan was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.
Kushaan adopts a focused approach to refining his academic skillset, with a view to achieving top grades in his A-levels. He has proactively identified areas for improvement and collaborates closely with his teachers, using past papers to deepen his understanding and enhance his exam technique.
A keen team player, Kushaan has captained the U19 volleyball team and is a member of the school basketball squad. He recently performed his first religious piece on the Tabla, demonstrating growing confidence with the instrument. Kushaan is training for his pilot’s licence and has recently passed three exams: Principles of Flight, Aircraft Technical and General, and Air Law.
As House Captain, Kushaan plays an active role in planning and delivering key events such as the House Olympics and Swimming Gala, demonstrating his strong leadership and teamwork skills. He continues to mentor younger students through chess and contributes to the school’s TEDx programme as a member of the organisational committee.
Kushaan volunteers with Lions Club, Arusha and has been helping to plan an upcoming eye camp event providing free glasses. He has also arranged as part of his Summer Citizenship Project for ten students from schools in Tanzania to gain work experience with a range of businesses, aiming to build their confidence and develop their employability skills.

Beacon Summer Citizenship Project
Kushaan’s Beacon Summer Citizenship Project focused on helping secondary schools in Tanzania to provide Form 4 students with opportunities for real world work experience in a range of professional settings.
