Liz Okello

17 years old, attending Hillcrest International School, Nairobi, Kenya. Liz was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.

Liz is a high attaining academic Scholar. She performed exceptionally well in her IGCSEs and was thrilled to learn that she scored the highest IGCSE ICT mark in Kenya. She continues this success with her A-level subjects. Currently attaining mostly As, she has managed the transition to A-level with hard work, determination and focus.

Liz is active in many co-curricular activities. She has been House Captain leading her house in interhouse sports and other events and has now been voted as Senior House Captain. She plays for the U17 and U19 basketball and contact rugby teams, winning first place in the KAISSO Finals with the U17 basketball team. She participated in the HYLEC business competition and the STEM fair, and is learning to play chess.

As a STEM Club Executive, Liz helps organise STEM fair competitions. She is President of the Club and has recruited junior executives to join her team. She has been a Class Prefect and is honoured to have now been chosen to be a School Prefect. She is also a Peer Counsellor.

Liz participates in her school’s community service programme teaching microbits to children in two children’s homes. She was appointed Boarding Prefect and uses her role to mentor and support Yr 11s through their exams. She co-founded Dream Seed Projects, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders by empowering children in children’s homes, and successfully carries out a range of impactful projects.

In Workshops, Liz is actively engaged, resourceful and is a strong and grounded team leader.

Beacon Summer Citizenship Project

Liz’s Summer Citizenship Project was called ‘Guiding Young Minds to Discover Talents and Shape Their Future‘ and was carried out at First Love Children’s Home in Nairobi.
