Malcolm Large

Malcom Kazimil

 21 years old, attending the University of Bristol, UK. Malcom was awarded a Beacon Scholarship for University in May 2023, and a Beacon Scholarship for Schools in 2019.

Malcom is studying towards a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Maintaining exceptionally high standards, he sets a rigorous timetable for himself, attends regular drop-ins and works with a study coach and mentor, all of which contribute to his excellent results.

Malcom is a sprinter for the university Athletics Team, competing at the National University Athletics Competition. He has tried various sports including lacrosse, contact rugby, combat karate and wild swimming. As a member of the Baking Society, he bakes for friends and Beacon social gatherings. Malcom has taken part in various LGBTQ events to broaden his understanding of the university community and keeps a journal chronicling all these new experiences.

Malcom is a recognised Changemaker, achieving a ‘Bristol SU 50 Most Influential’ award in 2024. He is Course Rep and Sponsorship Officer, Chief Senior Resident and Accommodation President. He is a co-founder and regular contributor to the Beacons Forever group on LinkedIn.

Malcom provides tutoring for struggling fellow students and during the summer teaches at a local school and helps at a summer camp. He volunteers with Robo Gals to promote STEM with young girls. Malcom’s organisation, The Golden Summer, has 100 volunteer applicants to work on the cancer, school and orphanage projects they have set up. 

Beacon Workshop Participation

Malcom is a brilliant leader who manages his time well. In Leadership Workshops he thoughtfully expresses himself in roles as coach, coachee and observer.

For his 2023 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project, Malcolm co-ordinated and oversaw the provision of a high-quality educational environment for children at Tumaini La Maisha Dar Es Salaam and also at Msasani Primary school.
