Maya Mukasa

14 years old, attending the International School of Uganda. Maya was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2025.

Maya previously attended UWCEA, Moshi, where she was noted as having a mature approach to her studies and a strong work ethic. As a high performing student Maya shows excellent effort in all areas of learning and has a deep drive to achieve and excel.

Displaying a well-rounded approach to co-curricular activities, Maya enjoys basketball, volleyball and netball. She was part of the school basketball team winning the U12 and U13 Championships and enjoys taking part in school ensembles as a member of the choir and Drama Club. She is a gifted artist and plays the guitar.

In her previous school, Maya was elected as Dorm Representative and is described as having strong moral foundations, connecting well with peers. She has also undertaken roles as a Committee Representative and Environmental Service Lead.

Maya demonstrates a strong commitment to citizenship and community activities. She volunteers at Nsambya Babies Home during the school holidays; noticing there was little play or games for the children, she introduced activities and songs to enrich their daily routine. She is involved with school community service including knitting blankets for babies and school clean-up activities.
