Megan Large

Megan Kamau

16 years old, attending St. Andrew’s School, Turi, Kenya. Megan was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2021.

Megan is a dedicated student who works with great focus and passion. She has worked hard to maintain and improve her grades and was awarded top performance awards for Economics, French, History and Psychology. She also achieved a silver award in the UK Maths Trust Competition.

A committed member of the school swimming squad Megan has been awarded Best U19 Swimmer of the Year. She achieved a high distinction and medal in her Grade 6 LAMDA Acting exam and was appointed school representative for the Special Summit at the MUN Conference and named best speaker for one of the debates.

Megan is a National English Honors Society Scholar. She has organised a workshop to nurture younger students’ love of literature and planned a writing competition based on climate change. She has recently created the Turi Union, a space to stimulate intellectual debate amongst peers and also instigated a ‘Leaders Group’ of students who network at events such as MUN Conferences.

As a Head of the School Charity Committee Megan organises events to raise money for underfunded schools. She has also contributed to sustainable construction plans for the new boarding houses in her role leading the school Environmental Committee. Megan’s Beacon Summer Citizenship Project year is focused on teaching study skills to girls at Mukuru Community Centre School in Nairobi.

Beacon Workshop Participation

In Leadership Workshops, Megan is a role model to fellow scholars and fully embraces the experience, showing leadership skills such as creativity, active listening, teamwork and initiative.

Megan’s 2024 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project focused on teaching study skills to students at Mukuru Community Centre School during the summer holidays to aid future exam candidates gain the highest marks possible.
