Mabel Kirabo Akimanzi is an international development and gender specialist with over 15 years’ experience working across sub-Saharan Africa. She has supported civil society organisations, youth leaders, and grassroots movements in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi and Pakistan, with a focus on gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), economic justice, and community-driven development.
Mabel has held multiple advisory and grant-making roles with regional and global organisations, including AmplifyChange and the GAVI CSO Funding Mechanism, where she has led program design, learning processes, and capacity strengthening initiatives. She also works as an independent consultant supporting evidence-based programme evaluations, organisational development, and strategic planning for feminist and social justice actors.
Mabel holds a Master of Arts in International Development and is certified in Gender-Integrated Programming. Having studied abroad herself, she understands the opportunities and challenges faced by scholars transitioning to academic life in the UK. As a Beacon Home Country Mentor, she draws on her international experience to support and ground scholars as they navigate life and study away from home.
