Leadership Development Module: M7 Making Teams Work – November 2024

In November, we delivered workshops focusing on successful teamwork.

Module 7 of the ARLLS Leadership Development programme is ‘Making Teams Work’. School and university scholars completed the online course on Moodle and then participated in a workshop via Zoom. The online course consisted of lessons on:

  • Possible teaming problems
  • The role of Emotion, Conflict & Trust
  • A pathway to creating Winning Teams

The workshops kicked off with participants having the opportunity to set out their expectations of the workshop. The wishlist included ‘Exploring new ways to boost team morale‘, ‘Working with a team without getting on each other’s nerves‘ and ‘Getting real life experience of working in teams and getting the most from them‘.

The experiential activity Team Troubles Tamed asked participants to take their teamwork learnings from the Moodle course, and transform themselves into a leadership SWAT team, swooping in to help their student council get through some tricky teaming problems. Using techniques such as the 4-point guide for turning teams around, and the roadmap to recovery, participants created guidance roleplays to support their student council out of their team troubles.

Course and workshop feedback was extremely positive:

  • I truly enjoyed the entire experience, and I am excited to incorporate everything I’ve learned into my daily routine
  • I learnt a lot from the Moodle courses and everyone’s experiences and gained hands-on experience from the group task
  • I have a football tournament next week and I will use all these tips to build better trust and communication with my team-mates
