In April, our Leadership courses had a wellbeing theme, helping to support Scholars in the summer exam period.
Module 10 of the ARLLS Leadership Development programme is ‘Boosting Resilience and Energy’. We’re all familiar with the importance of grit and perseverance, but it’s not always easy for young people to put this knowledge into practice. This course offers a plethora of practical tips and techniques to help participants keep going, even when the going gets tough.
The online course consisted of lessons on:
- Building Resilience
- The Search for Meaning
- Re-energising (yourself and others)
At the workshop, participants were given scenarios where young people were dealing with different pressures and low energy. They were tasked with using learning from the online course, as well as their personal experiences, to create an action plan for each imaginary young person. The activity and subsequent plenary discussions generated many wise insights and Aha! moments, including:
- ‘Rejection is just re-direction.’
- ‘Reflection needs to be accompanied with action.’
- ‘It’s important to celebrate your small wins too, and not just focus on the main target only.’
Feedback from this course was overwhelmingly positive:
- ‘The group activity was very insightful and it’s reassuring knowing that we all go through the same thing.‘
- ‘I love having a forum to share my thoughts, and hear everybody’s personal experiences and their powerful quotes.’
- ‘The open conversations we were able to have at the end of the workshop were amazing. It’s so nice to be able to casually discuss the course with everyone including the teachers.’
