Leadership Development Module: M9 Creativity, Initiative & Innovation – February 2025

In February, we delivered workshops focusing on how to harness the power of creativity and innovation in yourself and others.

Module 9 of the ARLLS Leadership Development programme is ‘Creativity, Initiative & Innovation’. An exciting exploration of how to unleash creativity and inspire innovation, school and university scholars completed the online course on Moodle and then participated in a workshop via Zoom. The online course consisted of lessons on:

  • Creativity & Inventiveness
  • Sparking Initiative
  • Breakthrough Innovation

A key part of getting the most out of leadership workshops is encouraging participants to reflect in advance on their workshop expectations. Participants shared thoughts such as hoping to ‘Learn different methods and perspectives on how to ignite creativity,’ and ‘See creativity and entrepreneurship skills in fellow scholars.’

Participants were introduced to a variety of techniques to unleash creativity and innovation in themselves and in others. They were able to test out some of these techniques in the workshop ‘Shark Tank’ activity, which involved coming up with a new and innovative idea or product – nothing was too wacky or zany in this space! Ideas floated all shared Changemaker themes and included FoodGPT, SustAIanable AI, and a product to generate fresh water Out of Thin Air. To finish the workshop, all participants shared their Aha! moments (see image below).

Course and workshop feedback was extremely positive, and highlights included:

  • [The best part] was the breakout room where we got to learn from each other and put into practice what we have learnt from the Moodle course.’
  • Hearing pitches from everyone! It was really nice to see everyone’s ideas and how passionate they were.’
  • I will find the brainstorming techniques especially useful in future group projects!’
