Dev Gardi

17 years old, attending Peponi School, Nairobi, Kenya. Dev was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2020.

Dev is a dedicated and diligent student who works hard to achieve academic success. He has sought guidance from teachers and peers, and this pushes him to work even harder. To reflect his commitment to his studies, Dev is aiming for the highest grades when he completes his exams at the end of the school year.

A talented public speaker, Dev helped organise the interschool EAMUN and was a delegate at the Conference achieving an honorary mention as one of the best speakers in the Political Committee. He represents the school in athletics and has participated in a number of interhouse competitions. He plays the piano and helped to organise and take part in house dance and singing competitions.

A keen environmentalist, Dev is developing a school paper recycling initiative and has created a new Environmental Ministry and Conservation Club. As Minister, he has attracted 30 new members and managed an initiative to eradicate the use of paper cups in school. He is a school prefect and started a project to convert bus passes and lists to digital format.

Dev joined the Charity Committee helping to raise funds for different projects in Naro Maro. He has also helped carry out the construction of classrooms in public schools.

Beacon Workshop Participation

In Leadership Workshops, Dev participates well and excels as a group leader. He shows good self-reflection and is a good listener, offering constructive suggestions and building trust with his peers.

Dev’s 2024 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was to construct a library to improve literacy and inspire creativity and critical thinking amongst the children at the Shelter Children’s home in Ngong town.
