Dev Gardi
18 years old, attending the University of Exeter, UK. Dev was awarded a Beacon Changemakers University Scholarship in May 2025, and a Beacon Scholarship for School in May 2020.
Dev is studying towards an MEng in Chemical Engineering. Prior to that, he attended Peponi School, Kenya where he completed A-levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
Dev is a talented sportsman and represented his school in hockey, football and athletics. A keen environmentalist, he was a founding member of the school Conservation Club. He also plays the piano and loves pushing himself, as evidenced in his participation in the ’75 hard’ training challenge. He enjoys debate and was involved with MUN and Rhino cup competitions at school.
Dev’s great strength is his ability to connect with and motivate people from all walks of life. He held various school leadership and prefect roles and is known as an impactful mentor to younger peers.
Dev is the driving force in a project to setup and maintain a library in a local children’s home. This is something he has worked on for several years and using his knowledge of technology and computing he has found a way to make this project self-sustaining and long lasting for its users.
Beacon Workshop Participation
In Leadership Workshops, Dev participates well and excels as a group leader. He shows good self-reflection and is a good listener, offering constructive suggestions and building trust with his peers.
Beacon Summer Citizenship Project
Dev’s 2024 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was to construct a library to improve literacy and inspire creativity and critical thinking amongst the children at the Shelter Children’s home in Ngong town.
