Jamie Jean-Louis

19 years old, attending the University of Surrey, UK. Jamie was awarded a Beacon Scholarship for University in May 2024.

Jamie is studying towards a BSc in Sports Science & Exercise. He has found his niche in the Sports Science field and thoroughly enjoys all the growth it offers. He shows great academic potential and has done particularly well in his coursework.  He is passionate about encouraging more people into sport and healthy nutrition and has set up personal training programmes for two clients who are recovering from injury.

A talented sportsman, Jamie plays for both the first and second hockey teams at university, gaining the ‘Captain’s player of the year’ award. He was selected to train with the U21 Kenya national team. To maintain fitness, he completes a weekly 5K Park Run and runs 10K each week. He trained for a half marathon and regularly attends the gym.

Jamie is active on the university society and social scene. He has been the Sports Officer for the East African Society and planned an inter-society football tournament.  He forms fitness groups with friends, who now attend the gym and the Park Run together. He was Captain of the university’s second hockey team, and attended some Bible studies and a Christian fair event.

Jamie uses his love of sport to flex and grow his Citizenship. He volunteered as a hockey coach at a local academy and plans to create a hockey or rugby coaching Summer Citizenship Project, to engage more children in sport. He also volunteers at the Guildford Park Run.

Beacon Workshops

In Beacon Workshops Jamie is an engaged and influential team member who effectively applies Moodle course content to workshop tasks, offering encouragement and support to quieter team members.

Beacon Summer Citizenship Project

Jamie’s Summer Citizenship Project was called ‘Game Changers – Shaping Tomorrow’s Sports Leaders’ and focused on empowering young Kenyan athletes to be leaders in the sports community, as well as giving knowledge on key fundamentals that sport needs, such as nutrition, recovery and training.
