Muhammad Hussein
22 years old, attending Kings College, Cambridge, UK. Muhammad was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.
Muhammad is studying towards a BA in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. He has successfully managed the academic rigour of Cambridge University by developing an independent study routine and reading around his subject.
A keen sportsman, Muhammad is a member of the University and College Rugby teams as well as the university American Football team. He initiated a mentoring scheme between first and second years to promote team cohesion and maintains his fitness by regularly attending the gym and working on the climbing wall.
Muhammad is committed to the Palestinian Solidarity campaign and helps at talks and events. He attends Cambridge Union debates and talks by influential speakers which broaden his thinking and enhance his public speaking. His elected role to their Equalities Subcommittee requires him to ensure equal opportunities in their operations.
Muhammad volunteers at the Cambridge Central Mosque, helping with events such as the Ramadan food run and handing out flyers for events. He is involved with the Cambridge Student Community Action (SCA) group and supports them on occasions with some of their charitable events.
Workshop Participation
In Leadership Workshops, Muhammad speaks with ease and is engaged with the workshops and showing good teamwork skills.
As a new Beacon Scholar, Muhammad spoke about his experience of service to date, in particular fundraising to support disadvantaged girls to complete high school, and also coaching with children’s football teams.
